Is The Infocus In72 As Good Or Better Then The Themescene H30a Projector?
I have been buying projection systems for business and home theater use for over 15 years now. I can’t deny that the inFocus IN72 is nice, with a nice bunch of features for the price. It also comes with HDMI interface, compared to DVI on the Themescene. You have chosen two very comparable systems.
having said that, I stopped buying and recommending InFocus equipment years ago. It is, in my expereince, the LEAST reliable on the market. I have had better reliability from cheap Samsung units.
I have had zero complaints from places where I have used Optoma gear (they are the ones who make the Themescene, and are a world leader in these systems). I have the Optoma H77 in my home. It also has DVi, but I ahve a HDMI to DVI cable, and I upconvert all my movies to 1080 through the projector. It is nothing short of fabulous.
Another advantage to the Optoma versus the InFocus, the Themescene has a native contrast ratio of 3,000:1, compared to the InFocus at 2,000:1.

The previous answer is a good one, although note that despite claims of problems with infocus and not with Optoma, Infocus has a reputation for good customer support while Optoma have had a great deal of criticism for short bulb life on several of their — now discontinued — projectors (e.g. H79, H78) … and lack of customer support. I can’t verify, but this is my read from reading AVS Forum.
One UK site (see first link) says the H30a has been discontinued. I also note that the UK price of the H30a was double that of the IN72 … so direct comparison may be “unfair”.
In the US the Optoma HD70 looks like it may be the same or very similar to the H30a (See review at second link)
