If you check the December 2008 issue of CONSUMER REPORT MAGAZINE entitled Best Electronics pages 40-44 you would amazed how many CANON digital cameras are highly rated…
We recently bought a Canon SD1100 (our 2nd digital camera) based on its Top Rating (#2 out of 24 subcompact) The price (in USA $150 to $200) was very reasonable and Wow, we couldn’t be any happier bec what an excellent choice: the pics, zoom and slide show are absolutely amazing…at least the experts know and can tell the differences between truly amazing cameras which almost seem indistinguishable and all alike.
The specs for this subcompact Point & Shoot Digital Camera are 8 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, image quality (very good), first shot delay (very good), next shot delay (excellent), versatility (excellent), dynamic range (excellent), maximum ISO with best quality (400), optical/mechanical stabilizer (yes), face detection (yes)
Hope the Above Info Helps!
I agree with many of the other answers that recommend the Canon SD1100. I personally used and reviewed this camera on my website http://www.myfavoritecameras.com/
I used the camera in a wide variety of conditions and the SD1100 consistently started up quickly, generating quality photos with good color, sharpness, and exposure. The indoor flash setting was fickle at times, but I was usually able to correct for this by moving the camera to a slightly different angle where the lighting was more even.
If you like to keep things simple, fun and inexpensive, consider this camera. Currently you can get it on Amazon for about $150.
Good luck!
I have a Kodak camera, and I think it’s pretty good!=Dhttp://search.kodak.com/?pq-locale=en_US…
That’s some information about it. It also has many colors! Mine is “Midnight Black.” I just really love the camera, and do highly recommend it. Here are a few pictures I took with the camera. NON edited. And definately not spam.http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff220…http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff220…http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff220…http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff220…
There is an 8 and 10 mega pixel. I have the 8.
All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on…….
The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.
I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

Canon SD1100 IS
Canon Powershot A590IS
I think the best value right now is the Canon Powershot A590IS. You’ll find it on Amazon.com for about $105. If, like me, you have to pay with pounds sterling, it’s still a very good value choice at around £100 (yeah, not quite the same deal but we keep smiling…)http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommen…
